Press Release: Mika Sellens 'Back Home EP’

Lyrical. Languid. Lulling. Three words for the music of Mika Sellens. Listen to the four tracks on her new Back Home EP and you will hear wistful melodies of a rare quietitude. Yes of course you can use terms like 'acoustic' and 'singer songwriter' to describe these gentle musings. But you might also wish to meditate upon their uniquely contemplative nature and focus upon the drifting, eloquent observations on love, life, loss and longing. No wonder this twentysomething East London dweller has already been eulogised by some critics as a 'female Nick Drake'. There is a pared-down, bucolic charm to her music. A musing upon the minds travels and the hearts solitary trajectory on songs like Back Home and Destination You.

Of course you may be familiar with her voice already - back in 2003 she sang on, and co-wrote, Levis ad soundtrackers Pepe Deluxe's track Lying Peacefully (Catskills Records). She's been writing songs since the age of ten and trained as a composer at Goldsmiths. Back Home EP is the first release on her new label Little Doll Records. It is a culmination and a concentration of her oeuvre. It's watercolour wash of literate melodica is as beguiling as today's crop of new folk gets.
